Hi wonderful people in the Lord! The past few weeks have been intensed with so many happenings in the my family, our church, our nation, neighbouring countries and faraway land. Time and time again, the intensed pressures of life reveal the grace of God in many ways. The promise of Jesus is reliable : He said "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness" (2 Cor 12:9) Thank you all in CHS for your love and prayers for me, my family and especially wife Pauline. The successful removal of the 9-cm tumour (from the adrenal gland in her kidney) is a testimony of His mighty hand of protection over her. The biopsy on her tumor also revealed the grace of God upon her life as it was discovered that the growth was initially cancerous while she was having it, unknowingly, during her childhood days but it was (supernaturally) prevented from spreading. Marvellous grace of God at work! In CHS, I sense "growth pains". There is a feeling of "breaking through" to new levels of growth in spirituality and numerical growth but it has yet to manifest. Why so, we may ask? The answer could be whether everyone is moving together. We need to be serious in our walk with the Lord Jesus Christ. We need to "give ourselves fully unto the Lord" as we are reminded of our theme for 2008 to see the great exploits of God. In Singapore, we thank God for the relative peace and prosperity, though there are growing concerns for slowing economy, aging population, decreasing birth rate and increasing cost of living. Are we overwhelmed? Pray the prayer of the psalmist: "I lift up my eyes to the hills, from where does my help come? My help comes from the LORD who made heaven and earth" (Ps 121) The devastating cyclone "Nargis" in Myanmar and the devastating earthquake in Sichuan are reminders of the uncertainties of life and the frailties of life. Outside the truth that is revealed for us in the Word of God, there's really nothing we can put our trust in. Who or what do we put our trust in? May our answer be a resounding and resolute respond that Jesus is the One whom we trust! Beijing Olympic seems to temporarily taken our minds off the struggles that the Anglican Communion is facing on the issues on homosexuality. Why this has happen - acceptance and legalising same sex relationship and marriages - only God knows. Maybe, it is a kind of purging. May Singapore remain firm in her belief that family (man-woman-children) is the primary building blocks of our nation. One thing is clear : we cannot lose sight of Jesus as He is our only compass to keep us on course on the narrow road of righteousness that leads to life. (Fix our eyes on Jesus - Heb 12:2) To God be the glory! |
