Handle the Word of God with reverence!

A few days ago, I was given an A4 leaflet, printed on both sides, about a "new church" claiming its authenticity as "the only true church" and stating that denominations (I suppose that includes the Anglicans) as evil.  Scriptures were quoted, albeit out of context, to suit their theology.  This is terrible.  As I measure them against the written Word of God the leak shows.

A few days ago, I was talking to some relatives and I had to rebuke them in the middle of the conversation.  When my reasoning somehow put them in a corner, they used Scriptures to taunt. This is terrible.

I can never forgot the "charge" by Rev Dr Michael Shen, then the Principal of S'pore Bible College, in his sermon to us students in our graduation ceremony in 2003.  I could not forget how he delivered his "charge" with a deep conviction from his heart and almost choking on his emotions:

"In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of His appearing and His kingdom, I give you this charge : Preach the Word, be prepared in season and out of season correct, rebuke and encourage - with great patience and careful instruction.  For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine.  Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.  They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry." (2 Tim 4:1-5)

I pray that CHS will be rooted in the Word of God (see our mission statement) and that everyone will handle Word of God with reverence!  

Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who deos not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the Word of truth. (2 Tim 2:15)
